This area will answer common questions regarding Internet access.

What kind of Internet dial access do you have?
  • Dial access is provided via UUNets backbone. Remote and mobile customers may use a variety of software packages to connect to our service, including DUN (Dial Up Networking) for Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, 5.0, and Windows  3.x. Users of Linux may also use a dial up for Netscape and other supported browsers.

What does Virtual.net's Connection Services  include?

  • Virtual1.net's access packages include dialup, between 2-5MB of space for a web page pending the access plan you have, access to news and mail services, and of course, technical support issues regarding connectivity.

Can other SLIP/PPP software be used to access your network?

  • Any SLIP protocol software can be used to access Virtual1.net's Service. We have set up sample scripts for popular software such as Trumpet Winsock, LINUX, Internet In a Box, and InterSLIP. PPP is currently supported via our V.34 dial gateways.

What is the available speed for direct dial Internet access?

  • Virtual1.net's Internet Connection Services currently supports speeds up to 56 Kbps on Flex/ V.90 based modems. We also offer dedicated and non-dedicated ISDN access. All other access lines support up to 33.6 Kbps.

Are there any limitations for supported Internet protocols?

  • No, direct dial access service provides full Internet protocol connectivity via SLIP or PPP. We also support all Internet protocols and applications, including telnet, FTP, Web browsers, newsgroups, SMTP email, gopher, and Archie.
